Please be advised that UNITE HERE Local 47 welcomes our new Brothers and Sisters at the Horizon North – North Sands Lodge located at the Imperial Oil Kearl Oil Sands Project who have just voted to join UNITE HERE Local 47. 

The ballots were counted and the majority voted to have UNITE HERE Local 47 as their Bargaining Agent.  We will serve Notice to Bargain and start working on getting a Collective Agreement in place for this Lodge in the near future.

The strength and solidarity of these new members have earned them the rights and protections contained in a Local 47 Collective Agreement.  On behalf of the Officers, Executive Board, Staff and Members of Local 47 I congratulate you all and welcome you to our family.  We all look forward to getting to know each of you!

Firebag Ratification Results

 

Please be advised that the members at the Firebag – Village & Voyageur sites have voted overwhelming in favour of their second Collective Agreement.

 Highlights of the new Agreement include:

  • One (1) paid hour Union orientation by Job Steward or Union Representative.

  • Assignment of shifts by seniority within classification.

  • Employees without sufficient seniority may request to ‘sit-out` in lieu of a lay-off.

  • 24 hour notice of change in shift – minimum 12 hour notice.

  • Paid meal breaks

  • If not clear eight (8) hours of rest between shifts the next shift shall be paid with a .5 premium.

  • Premium time (weekend and stat holidays) to be distributed based on seniority within classification.

  • In the event of lay off “bumping” will be allowed to any lower classification the Member was last dispatched to. (not applicable during Christmas Recall period of December 1st to January 31st each year).

  • Vacation requests by seniority and entitled to three (3) weeks annually.

  • Leave of Absence not to exceed four (4) months.

  • Leave of Absence – Union courses/conventions and if appointed or elected to an Executive position in the Union.

  • Bereavement Leave – reimbursement of Red Arrow bus to/from Edmonton and additional unpaid leave requests that will not be unreasonably denied.

  • NEW: Effective the month following ratification – Introduced contribution to the UNITE HERE Local 47 Community Fund of ten cents ($0.10)/hour.

  • Increased contribution to Building Trades of Alberta – six cents ($0.06)/hour.

  • Non-slip shoe allowance language (as per Grievance resolution).

  • Laundering of uniforms to be done by the Employer. Minimum of 4 uniforms.

  • CA Workload: Tool Box credit, new duties to be reviewed with the Union, credit for travel to/from work sites, CA/Cleaner Premium of one dollar ($1.00)/hour.

  • Parties agree to meet from time to time to review Not For Rehires.

  • Travel subsidy: $150/month – date of ratification.  If no flights provided $250/month

  • Wage increases (Retroactive for those employed at the date of ratification):

    • Retroactive to July 1, 2012 One Dollar ($1.00)/hour.

    • 3% – July 1, 2013

    • 5% – July 1, 2014

    • 3% – July 1, 2015

Ratification Results

 

Please be advised that the members at Creeburn have ratified the Mediator’s recommended settlement.

 The new agreement includes:

  • Updated language throughout the Collective Agreement.

  • Up to one (1) paid hour Union orientation.

  • Assignment of shifts by seniority within classification.

  • Employees without sufficient seniority may request to ‘sit-out` in lieu of lay-off.

  • Must have eight (8) hours of rest between shifts.

  • CA performing Deep Cleaning duties premium increased from $.25 to $.50/hour.

  • Premium time (weekend and stat holidays) to be distributed based on seniority within classification.

  • Janitor/Utilities and CA’s who are qualified in the other classification may be temporarily assigned to work in either classification on a case-by-case basis based on their qualifications and with the approval of the Ranking Officer of the Union. Hours worked in a higher paid classification will be paid that rate.

  • Vacation requests by seniority and expected to take three (3) weeks annually.

  • Health and Pension Plan language in event Employer does not remit properly.

  • Bereavement Leave – addition of Step-children, Step-parents and additional consecutive days of unpaid leave may be approved on a case-by-case basis.

  • Shoe Allowance – existing employees $65 on the 2nd payroll after ratification and each year on 1st payroll after August 1st. New employees will receive $65 after sixty calendar days and annually on 1st payroll after August 1st

  • Workload

    • 46/23 rooms/washrooms

    • 33 management and disabled person rooms

    • Janitor/Utility will do Hallways and Laundry Rooms

    • Credit of two rooms for the third and subsequent bunkhouse entered

    • Tool box of 10 minutes and anything over that results in room credits

    • Prior to new work assignments being introduced it will be reviewed with the Ranking Officer of the Union.

  • Transportation allowance increase to – $300 Aug 1, 2014, $320 Aug 1, 2015.

  • Wage increases (retroactive for those employed at date of ratification)

3% – Aug 1, 2013, 3% – Aug 1, 2014 and 3% – Aug 1, 2015.
